Christ: Our Joy and Confidence

Galatians! Today’s reading covers the first three chapters of Galatians. Every time I read this epistle, I am amazed by God’s goodness. Salvation is God’s gift, given by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone!

However, man is incurably religious. His pride blends seamlessly with his attempts to protect his faith, through which he believes he gains favor with God. Paul describes how this had consumed his life, saying no one could come close to him in his zeal for the traditions of his ancestors. (Galatians 1:13–14)

Additionally, man tends to believe he has a role in salvation. This arrogance is evident in the notion that he must “do” something even though Christ has already "done” everything. Paul posed a pointed question to the Galatians. I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! ... (Galatians 3:5, NLT) Justification is not by works but by faith.

Believers, let us rejoice that our salvation is the gift of God, by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone (Galatians 3:14, NLT)! May the simplicity of His Gospel remain our joy and confidence, for we have been justified by faith, not by works.

Thank you for joining me as I read and journal chronologically through the Bible. This devotional reflection is on Galatians 1-3:29 / Day 328.
